Wedding Advice: Pregnant Bridesmaids

May 22nd, 2013 by Glendalough Manor

Lots of things may pop up in the planning of the wedding and one of those things may be a pregnant bridesmaid!  As much as you may want everyone to put their lives on hold during your wedding, you have to realize that won’t happen.  No need to worry.  There are so many bridesmaid dresses out there nowadays that accommodating a pregnant bridesmaid is easier than ever.

First off make sure she is still comfortable being in the wedding.  You should have an idea of her due date and can determine how far along she will be. If she is still on board for the wedding, there are just a few things to consider to make your bridesmaid comfortable in your wedding.  Never tell a bridesmaid she can no longer be in the wedding since she is pregnant….that’s just not right.

When looking for dresses you don’t have to dress your pregnant bridesmaid in an unflattering dress.  Just because she is pregnant doesn’t mean she can’t wear a similar dress and style to the other bridesmaids.  Be open to mixing and matching the bridesmaids dresses.  Consider choosing the same fabric and color but a few different styles.

Also look at choosing dresses with a fabric that stretches around the belly.  You may even want to consider a dress with straps for extra support.

Alterations will be her best friend.  Prepare for alterations the week of the wedding so the dress not only fits her correctly but she feels comfortable as well.

You don’t have to throw out those heels just because of one girl.  Find a lower heel for your pregnant bridesmaid and keep the other girls in the higher heel if you want.  Another great idea is to provide flip flops or flats for all of the girls to wear during the reception.  That way they can all kick back and dance the night away in comfort.

Hope this has helped with what to do with your pregnancy pop up!

Makeup Trends for Spring/ Summer 2013

May 20th, 2013 by Glendalough Manor

Every year the runways help to dictate the hot new makeup trends. This year is no exception!  Some of the same looks we have seen before are showing up in a new way!

Photo provided by Austin Culture Map

Red lips are still on trend for Spring and Summer 2013.   A pop of color on the lips, especially red, is a great look.  Just make sure to keep the eyes neutral.  Another great way to get a pop of color instead of wearing red lips is to try pink!

Eyeliner is all the rage this year! Try a retro look with your liner which goes great with a pop of color on the lips.  You can also smudge your eyeliner to give a more smoky eye look paired with a softer lip.

Bold eyes are still on trend with lashes being center stage.  Fluttery, thick lashes are the perfect way to make a dramatic statement with your eyes without wearing too much eyeshadow.

The natural look with glowing skin is also on trend for Spring and Summer.  Bronzer is your best friend with this look.  Wear a natural eye and lip with your skin being the main attraction.

If you haven’t seen some of these amazing and sometimes hilarious cake toppers then you are missing out!  Cake toppers are back on trend this year with some of the most creative designs I have ever seen.   You can now get cake toppers that resemble you and your fiances likeness and even personality.   In most cases you send them a few head shots of your faces or answer a few questions about your appearance and a custom cake topper can be made for you.  Check out some of these creative custom wedding cake toppers!

One of the most hilarious cake toppers I have seen are custom made bobble heads!  Guests are sure to get a kick out of seeing these on the top of your cake!

For an even more creative cake topper, look at these custom Pez dispensers.  I can’t tell if this is cute or a little creepy!

My favorite custom cake toppers are made out of clay.  How cute one is the topper that resembles the Disney movie “Up”?

Glendalough Manor Real Wedding: Sydney and Blake

May 15th, 2013 by Glendalough Manor

I am so excited to share this real wedding at Glendalough Manor with you!! The amazing photographers from Unplugged Photography did an incredible job of capturing the wedding day of Sydney and Blake on May 3, 2013.  I had such a hard time choosing which pictures to feature since so many of them were absolutely gorgeous! Hope you enjoy this beautiful wedding story of Blake and Sydney!

The bride wore a beautiful lace empire waist wedding gown with a sweetheart neckline designed by Essence of Australia.

Sydney and Blake decided to have a “first look” and get a private moment in the gardens at Glendalough Manor before the ceremony.  It was an emotional and beautiful moment captured David Shirk of Unplugged Photography.

The bridesmaids wore tea length dresses in shades of lavender and pink and carried gorgeous hand tied bouquets of peach, pink and lavender created by the talented Perfect Petals Design Group.

The ceremony took place in the gardens where the aisle was lined with shepherd hooks with jars of coordinating flowers.  Under the pergola were two large arrangements on either side of the couple on large columns.  Stunning!

The reception was held in the Wicklow Ballroom at Glendalough Manor.  The chairs were tied in a soft shade of lavender accented with a lavender napkin.  A long head table was set in the center of the room with all of the guest tables surrounding them. Sydney and Blake had a candy buffet as the wedding favor for the guests to enjoy.  The cake was made by Cutie Pies and Cakery was topped with an adorable cake topper with the words “We Do”.

Southwest Wedding Style

May 14th, 2013 by Glendalough Manor

This year is all about prints, prints, and more prints!  Brides are choosing prints like chevron, polka dots, and stripes to be their wedding theme.  Some of the more unique prints are Aztec and Ikat prints that are great inspiration for a Southwest themed wedding.  Just looking at the colors in these unique prints can be the foundation for your wedding colors and decor.  If you love the bold colors, have a bohemian style and love unique prints then a Southwest wedding might be a perfect wedding theme for you!

Photo provided by The Blushing Bride

Invitations are a great way to introduce your guests to your theme so these Aztec inspired invitations are perfect for a Southwest wedding!

Photo provided by Etsy

To stay with the theme of the wedding the bride has to compliment her own wedding theme.  As a bride, consider a bohemian look and style to best match this theme.  I love this bride’s feather earrings and belt.

I think this Aztec inspired ceremony background is so unique and graphic!  Plus this couple used southwest rugs for guests to sit on at the ceremony instead of chairs.

For the flowers, use plants like cactus and succulents that are naturally found in the Southwest.  Succulents look beautiful in bouquets and make great boutonnieres.

Cactus’s in containers make great decor and can double as favors for guests.  Or small dream catchers are such a cute favor to match a Southwest Aztec theme!

And of course you can’t forget about the cake and using the aztec print to decorate the cake!

5 Unique Wedding Desserts

May 9th, 2013 by Glendalough Manor

Say goodbye to the days when the wedding cake was the only dessert served at a wedding! These days brides are treating their guests to all types of delicious goodies either during the cocktail hour, reception or as a late night snack.  You can choose to create a candy or dessert bar  filled with sweet treats or choose one main dessert to give your guests.  Either way, these mini delicious surprises are always a welcome treat!  Here are five desserts that are not only unique but will leave a lasting impression on your guests!

Do you love chocolate?  Do you love bacon?  Well, why not put them together for a delicious late night dessert!?  The mix of the savory and the sweet is so unbelievably good and the perfect snack for a night of partying!

A great dessert that can be served during a cocktail hour or later in the evening is cotton candy!  Guests will feel like a kid again eating this sugary dessert!

Photography Ideas: The Rings

May 8th, 2013 by Glendalough Manor

A photography shot that most people forget about is the rings.  If you are like most brides you want to make sure your photographer gets a picture of your shiny, new wedding rings!  The traditional ring shot consists of your and your new husbands hands in front of your bouquet.  Although this can still be a beautiful picture, it is a little boring.  In order to make sure you get a creative ring shot discuss this with your photographer.  You can give them some ideas of what shots you like but also let them be creative.   If you are unsure what pictures you want, here are some of my favorite ideas!

Photo provided by Bowties and Bliss

For a simple ring photography shot, use your vows or other stationary as the background for the photo.  You can also place the rings on your favorite bible verse.

Photo provided by Dandelion and Grey

Another simple shot is to have your photographer shoot through the ring and capture an image of something else.  Love this photo where you get a glimpse of the bride and groom kissing through the ring.

Some of my favorite shots are when the photographers choose items around the wedding to place the rings on.  This can include your cake topper, shoes, or even food!

If you want to include you and your husband in the shot, look at cute these photos! The pinky swear is my favorite!

Trend Alert: Arrows!

May 7th, 2013 by Glendalough Manor

You can thank the movie “Hunger Games” for a new trend in 2013; arrows!  Arrows have become very popular this year in the fashion industry showing up on jewelry and clothing.  You will even start to see arrows in home decor.  With the popularity in the fashion world, brides have been inspired to use arrows in everything from invitations to wedding cakes. Whether you know the movie “Hunger Games” or not, arrows can end up adding a modern touch to your wedding decor.  Here are some arrow wedding inspiration for you to consider!

Photo provided by Carla David Blog

Invitations give your guests a glimpse in to the type of wedding they will attend.  For an arrow themed wedding this stationary is the perfect choice!

I love the idea of using arrows for the guest seating cards.  Just add the place card to each arrow or use a large heart to display the arrows for a dramatic look.

Arrows look great tied as pew ends, used as table decor, or can even be bundled and carried as a bouquet!

Wedding Trend: Buttons

May 2nd, 2013 by Glendalough Manor

Who would have ever thought that buttons could be a decor item for weddings? I know I didn’t but was pleasantly surprised to see all of the ways that buttons can be used to accessorize a wedding.

Photo provided by Allison Barn HIll Designs

One of the ways you may have seen buttons at a wedding is in the flowers.  You can choose to put a few buttons in your bouquet to add texture or have your entire bouquet made out of buttons for a super bold look.   Buttons can also be used to make the groom and groomsmen boutonnieres.

Photo provided by Small Weddings Rock

Photo provided by Gathering Guide

If you have buttons in your bouquets and boutonnieres why not use them throughout the event?  Use buttons to fill glass containers for your reception centerpieces and add flowers in the jars to add a touch of romance.  You can even make button banners and

A clever way to use buttons is on the escort or place cards.  You can use buttons to decorate the cards or have the names of the guests imprinted on an actual button.  Such a unique idea!

Don’t forger about using buttons on your wedding cake!

If you really want a bold and unique look, find a wedding dress embellished with buttons! If made correctly it can look elegant and beautiful!

Wedding Dress Accessory: Bridal Caps

May 1st, 2013 by Glendalough Manor

The 1920’s are a huge theme for weddings this year and this trend has revived a bridal accessory known as a cloche, or a bridal cap.

Photo provided by Shop Ever Thine

This year the bridal cap has been modernized a bit to match the wedding dress designs of today but has kept the same appeal it had in the 20‘s and 30‘s.  To me, this extremely romantic fascinator is the ultimate accessory for a vintage themed affair.  It gives an ethereal look covering the top of the head and part of the forehead.

Photo provided by 11 Year Wedding

Photo provided by Sweet Violet Bride

It can be made to wear just the cap on it’s own, with a long veil attached to the back or even a blusher or cage veil in the front.  This gives you some versatility for after the wedding in case you want to remove the veils and only wear the cap for the reception.

Most are made with lace or a sheer tulle material.  Some are adorned with crystals, jewels, feathers or flowers to add extra flair.

I have to say, bridal caps are one of my new favorite accessories especially for a vintage wedding.

What are your thoughts about these bridal caps?  We want to know!
